I have worked on Motorola, Ericsson, Nokia, Nortel and Hughes base sites (Analog, TDMA, CDMA, GSM, UMTS WiMax, LTE) and some switch installation work. Cellular RAN optimization,  installation, commissioning, integration, de-installation, troubleshooting and maintenance.

 

IT and Wireless Consultant August 2015 to Present - Independent IT and wireless technology consultant. Installing and surveying sites for  WiFi access points (small cell WiFi) extending circuits to customer location from Demarc points via CAT5e wiring terminated at AP or on site equipment for routers or switches. Provide third party support for Earthlink, AT&T and others IT customers. . Troubleshooting outages at customer locations. Upgrading circuits. Extending circuits. Moving existing circuits. Replacing faulty equipment and configuring as needed.

Lemcon Construction Manager September 2014 to August 2015 - Manage construction crews in the field to complete site upgrades. Manage warehouse and materials to maintain a sufficient supply of materials for work. Coordinate activities with PM to best utilize personnel resources. Coordinate SCOP and punch list fixes to ensure site completion and acceptance. Address quality issues and ensure crew compliance with quality and build standards. Evaluate change order requests and out of scope work. Perform preconstruction site walks with customer and equipment vendors and recommend change requests and ensure that SOW can be performed completely.

Ericsson Contractor March 2014 to September 2014 Construction Manager – Ensure suppliers are following SOW/MOP when building and modifying cellular base sites. Track progress and report to customer and PM. Conduct SOW walks with supplier. Conduct punch walks on completed sites. Review close out package (COP) documents and ensure all are completed properly and uploaded. Update CAM and Continuus tools.

Insight Contractor June 2013 to March 2014 Installation Technician – Install wireless access points (WAP) on customer premises. Sites are all high security locations (Banking institutions). Install, connect and test WAP. Working with NOC and other support personnel to successful integrate the new WAP into existing networks or install entirely new wireless network at the customer location. Physically mount WAP. Connect WAP to existing switch via ethernet cable. Complete installation documentation.

Nokia Siemens Networks Contractor June 2012 to June 2013. Field Manager. Management of daily field operations including the night cutover bridge. Attend needed project meetings at a market level covering all areas from Quality, Progress, Logistics and Reporting. Located both in the office and in the field with most emphasis in the field. Evaluate GC field staff and quality of work by visiting BTS sites daily. Oversee multiple site build projects at once and is responsible for supervising the staff at each site ensuring that all projects are completed on agreed schedule and that standards of quality are met. Provide construction management for installation of new cell sites and modification of existing sites. This included both standard cell sites as well as a DAS located at AT&T Stadium. With regards to the AT&T DAS installation I worked closely with T-Mobile engineers in determining the removal of the existing equipment and requirements for the new base site. I also assisted with such basics as power (AC and DC) and cable routing. Monitor status of site walks, material delivery, and identify/report challenges to market project/program management. Assist with BOM ordering and oversee receipt and distribution of materials, and manage local warehouse inventory. Work with GCs in collecting Closeout packages and punch lists and conveying them to the customer.

Ericsson Contractor Sprint Network Vision March 2012 to June 2012. LTE commissioning and integration tech. Commission and Integrate Ericsson LTE base sites. Work includes QA checks of sites for proper and complete installation. Loading new software and site specific files to equipment. Troubleshooting and resolving transport and technical issues with the equipment. Collecting data including screen captures, photos and spreadsheet data for closeout packages.

Ericsson Contractor January to March 2012. LTE Q.A. Team leader. Lead a team to inspect LTE eNodeB installations and correct deficiencies in quality. Create reports and complete close out package documentation including spreadsheets, QA report forms and photos. Troubleshoot alarms and correct issues within the scope of the project.

February-March 2012. Nortel CDMA carrier add project. Adding second carrier equipment to existing sites.

Goodman Networks, February 2011 to August 2011. Construction Manager. Prepare quotes based on field scoping observations and relevant drivers. Complete site walks and prepare scoping documents and drawings. Complete closeout packages and upload documents to network database. Update trackers and prepare new trackers as needed. Conduct site QA inspections. Conduct site safety inspections.

Clearwire Contractor, December 2010 to February 2011. WiMax field technician. Repair and maintain existing WiMax network including microwave systems and base sites. Perform scheduled and demand maintenance. Maintain site records and logs. Install new sites including drive testing and integration.

AT&T Contractor November 2010 to December 2010. Microwave Technician. Microwave overlay project. Replaced existing microwave equipment with new Alcatel 9500 MPR and related equipment. Includes modification of existing waveguide and other RF connections. Configuring new microwave equipment, multiplexers and DSXs. Certified 9500 MPR Level II.

Clearwire Contractor September 2009 to September 2010. Microwave Technician, Field technician and Drive Tester. Install Dragonwave Duo, Redline and similar microwave systems including changing IP addresses and other parameters and physical installation of IDUs. Installed and cabled site switches. Installed and commissioned Motorola 4g WiMax sites for Clearwire in the San Antonio and Houston markets. Duties include cabling, loading software and commissioning base sites.

Also performed drive testing using the WiTT and XCAL drive test software for individual sites and clusters. Trained new personnel. Supported RF Engineering on special projects including prelaunch demonstrations and investigating customer complaints and special drive testing and network optimization.  Created drive routes and worked with RF engineer on recommendations for changes to sites or clusters.

Ericsson Contractor May 2009 to September 2009. Network Monitoring Shift Lead. Network monitoring, including RNCs, SGSN, Node Bs and other network nodes. Regular checking of network KPIs with some analysis. Routine checks including follow up of EWS email messages and regular scheduled monitoring. When network problems or potential problems were detected a trouble ticket would be opened using Clear Quest . The principal monitoring tools were Sonar and WinFiol. As team lead I created shift reports and trained new personnel.

T-Mobile Contractor November 2008 to May2009. Project Team Leader Leading a team of technicians in the refurbishing, deploying, commissioning and integrating Nortel GSM 8000 and 12000 cabinets at cell sites for a large roaming overbuild project in New York. This includes upgrading and loading current software testing and troubleshooting failures and installing TruPosition LMUs and loading updated scripts to the Axxius 800 CSUs. Troubleshoot T1 circuits. Sweep all antenna transmission lines (Anritsu 332). Check and adjust as needed antenna electrical downtilts per engineering documents. Create and deliver daily progress reports and project schedule tracking performed.

T-Mobile Contractor June 2008 to November 2008. UMTS Technician Providing support to field technicians on Nortel 8000 and 12000 GSM outdoor base sites. Support includes performing PM s and troubleshooting and replacing defective components at the base sites and T1s.

Viaero Wireless July 2007 to June 2008 Cell Site and Microwave Technician Lamar, Colorado. Install, maintain and troubleshoot Nokia Ultrasite GSM BTSs and Motorola LD base sites.. Also install, maintain and troubleshoot Alcatel MDR8000 DS1 and DS3 microwave equipment. Similar to previous work on Motorola, Ericsson and Nortel equipment. Use of JDSU 2700 for DS1 and DS3 troubleshooting. Anritsu spectrum analyzer and Anritsu Sitemaster for microwave test and alignments. Perform installation, commissioning and integration of Nokia GSM base sites and MDR8000 and MDR6000 microwave models. Use of ZKSam for network monitoring and troubleshooting. Decomissioning and removal of Motorola HD equipment. Generator maintenance (Generac gensets and transfer switches) including setting clocks and exercise times, run testing, replacing batteries, checking fluids and replenishing as needed.

Ericsson Contractor June 2006 to June 2007. UMTS Technician. Install and commission Ericsson UMTS and GSM base sites. Installing indoor and outdoor cabinets for the Cingular market in Little Rock Arkansas and Miami, Florida and New York City.  This includes mounting wiring and loading software on new UMTS cabinet installations and upgrades or expansions, running RF jumpers and attaching connectors and doing cable sweeps. Use of Anritsu sweep gear and T-Bird T-1 Test sets. December 06 to February 07. Radian/T-Mobile. Installation team leader in the installation of outdoor Ericsson UMTS. Also de-installed someolder GSM equipment to make way for new UMTS. Installations included all connections to be made ready or connected to cabinet. At the end of the installation the equipment was turned up and ready for commissioning. Nearly all sites were rooftop locations up to 29 stories up.I also assisted in coordinating and creating closeout packages for the project manager.

Real Estate Professional – Austin Star Inspections and Century 21. Dec 02 to Jun 06. Licensed as a real estate inspector. Inspecting residential properties for building code compliance and performing visual/non-invasive inspections of all equipment, appliances and systems. Licensed real estate sales person.


Sprint PCS - Cellular field engineer. Apr 97 to Dec 02. Work independently to  install, repair and maintain cellular infrastructure equipment (Nortel CDMA). Wide range of test equipment used including multifunction service monitors, antenna sweep gear (Wiltron) DVMs, RF power meters and T-1 test sets. Responsible for performing routine preventative as well as demand (outage) maintenance. Performed equipment modifications per engineering directives including frame changes.  In the build out of the Houston CDMA network I performed both installation and commissioning tasks as well as network/cluster optimization. Worked with contractors to ensure compliance with Sprint PCS directives. Other tasks performed as needed including upgrading T-1 connections and other functions not directly related to BTS operations. Also performed daily routine of recording and reporting on new BSC alarms and dispatching technicians to work such alarms when needed.

 April 1997 to Aug 1998 - Field Engineering. Locate likely positions for new BTS. Survey site for Suitability as a BTS site taking into account local roads, obstructions, terrain, elevation etc…Conduct crane tests in which an antenna is lifted on a crane in preparation to test a proposed site for suitability. Work with warehouse and installation crews to mount BTS to platform. Perform BTS cabling Verification and installation inspections. Commission BTS and complete performance certification. Do integration testing (hand-in hand-out). Do call testing including 911, E-911, local LD and International calling. Perform drive tests in clusters to do system optimization. Analyze drive test data and work with engineering staff to resolve problems.

Typical resolutions include changes in antenna orientation, antenna type changes, up-tilt/down-tilt, BTS parameter changes or possibly installing an new BTS.    A network was built from the ground up in record time. A total of more than 360 BTSs were commissioned and on-line at network turn up.

Various contracts (Systems &Software Services Inc, Motorola Inc. Hughes Network Systems)  Dec 93 to Apr 97  Cellular Field Engineer. Optimize, repair, modify cellular infrastructure equipment. Overseas locations in PR China (Shanghai, Tianjin, Ghangchun, Wenzhou), Thailand , Tatarstan,(Kazan, Chelny) Czech Rep. (Prague). Similar test equipment as above. Similar duties as above. In addition to the BTS duties I also worked on the Commissioning of the GMH2000 switch. I installed small switches in China as well as small cellular (analog) networks. Typically these small networks consisted of seven to twelve BTSs and a small switch such as a Motorola EMX100+ or EMX250. Additionally I was often tasked with customer liaison duties and with training local technicians.

 MetroCel Cellular Telephone Co - Apr 92 to Dec 93 Cell Site Technician. Similar work and test equipment to above. Additional duties included PMs on generators channel banks and T-1 interface equipment.

Motorola Inc. Fort Worth Division. Dec 85-Apr 92 Senior Technical Supervisor E05. Control production/manufacturing of sophisticated two way radio equipment. Responsible for daily operation quantity and quality and the training of new operators. At the peak there were 30 operators working under my direct supervision including 5 technicians. Began work with Motorola as a bench technician in Dec 1985 at grade 117. Duties included analyzing faults in production and repairing defects to the component level. Reporting defects and recommending production fault resolution. Promoted to group leader. Group leader duties included maintaining performance statistics on line operators and technicians as well as my regular technician/analyzer duties. High level fault analysis. Training new employees and assisting technicians with difficult fault analysis problems. Translating management goals into line production. Scheduling overtime and holiday work. Keeping attendance records. Promoted to Senior Technical Supervisor. In addition to the above duties as a group leader I assumed additional duties including the assignment of operator duties, scheduling of operators to compensate for absent operators, production reporting, goal forecasting and disciplining workers for company rules infractions. Spent six months as an engineering technician on loan to the engineering department. During this time I prepared and tested radio frequency tuning modules and supported the efforts of the engineering staff.

Tandy/Radio Shack. Oct 83 to Dec 85 National quality control technician. Performed inspections and inspection result analysis for consumer electronics. Testing included manufactures specification verification and safety testing, production sample testing and acceptance. Testing included various Radio Frequency performance tests, environmental testing and life testing.

US Air Force Nov77 to Nov81. Automatic tracking radar technician / operator. Repaired and operated MPS-9, TLQ-11, MSQ-77 and associated computers. Also repaired associated search/PPI radar, blanker/generator and radio equipment. Served in Germany (Ramstein AB) for two years as a field technician. Served fourteen months as a depot level technician in various locations.
